Abstract
Data is an essential asset in the IoT world, both as a source of information extraction and as a means of communication. Moreover, applying quality criteria is a fundamental requirement for any data consumer. In this contribution we use the smart city as a case study to present the characteristics that contribute to assessing data quality from both the provider side and the consumer side, since the criteria that define it are often not identical on both ends. We first present the data creation lifecycle in the IoT context, then the characteristics of data. We then define the concept of data quality, and finally introduce the criteria that define this data quality and their categories as metrics for measuring this qualitative aspect of data.
